On June 26, 2009, the House of Representatives passed historic clean energy legislation, thanks to the votes of Reps. Dina Titus and Shelley Berkley. Now, the battle goes to the Senate.
Top 10 most important aspects about the The American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) bill passed by the House as the United States moves to a clean energy future*:
1. ACES will help create 1.7 million clean energy jobs by rebuilding America’s leadership in manufacturing renewable energy technologies.
2. ACES Increases Our Energy Security and Reduces Our Dependency on Oil. 3. ACES would cut greenhouse gas emissions enough to equal pollution from half a billion cars. Factories, power plants and other sources would be required to cut emissions by about 80 percent by 2050. Passing this bill will help the US in negotiations this December when 180 nations meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to hammer out a successor to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
